Eidetic Labyrinth

Eidetic Labyrinth is a is a series of illustrations composed around a science fiction concept art for a hypothetical game or film. The media used throughout the compositions consists of 3D models, edited photographs, and original illustrations. In challenging myself to compose the concept I combined 2D and 3D assets to achieve more professional concept art inspired by artists Nicholas Kole, and Shaddy Safadi, and The Expanse Television Series. Combining 3D models to 2D illustrations is the leading industry standard in creating concept art. During my research of the skills needed to create 3D assets, I gained the ability to render these assets in Blender. This gave me the opportunity to have a more organized workflow by taking the models in a solid rendering, positioning them to do linework, and paint over in photoshop.

The Story.

The labyrinth is built around a main character of the series, Enol Lambert. He can only see what is in front of him and cannot remember what has been. The Labyrinth creates a misfortune of events that is to come from moving forward. Thus, creating a gap between the past as the way we wish we could forget and keep moving forward. The idea of one’s memory being trapped within their own thoughts and learning from the source of one’s faults and successes creates the Labyrinth. This is described by ambiguous illustrations that the character embraces throughout his journey. The compositions consist of environments, scene placement, and the character himself. Eidetic Labyrinth consists of Enol lambert collapsing during the reign of crisis Mnemosyne bestowed on his species. At the illusion of Mnemosyne’s inheritance, the Adrasteains fell to their fallacy. Consisting of a memory system breakdown within the brain, Eidetic is relating to or denoting mental images while have unusual vividness and detail, as if it were actually visible. A Labyrinth in this breakdown refers to a paradox in limbo, remaining unclear and contained in ones left memories. The setting is Jupiter’s Moon, Europa, Calisto, and Adrastea. The year is unknown after the loss of mankind, keeping track is a ancient mythology to them. Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory, sought out to destroy those who defied the laws of Eidetic memory. The Adrasteains found ways out of their labyrinths to regain mind over body in efforts to build a new world.

Eidetic Labyrinth is relatable to everyone around the world, not only to gamers and film enthusiasts, because it illustrates the central disconnect that we all approach during a timed meditation, or as I like to say, peace and quiet. The feeling of being trapped inside yourself with the inability to make it out, is a reality that we can all relate to. Depression, anxiety, and many other major mental illnesses plague our world, but many people do not seek out help, and keep moving forward. Those who have the courage to pursue help will make their way through their labyrinth. Eidetic Labyrinth gives hope to those who view the illustrations and can understand that concept. You are not alone, and because you continue to push forward, there will always be a way to remember what you need to in order to beat your labyrinth.
